It's difficult for Australia to break new ground.

The greatest achievements have already been conquered.

This is the team that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to six more T20 titles, and once went over three years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, the ones sought by the record chasers, are the only things left for a squad that has accomplished all there is.

That it took up to Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase over 300, reclaiming their record for the biggest in the female 50-over format, is, in truth, a tribute to the pitchers that have represented Australia over the last half-century.

It's difficult for their batsmen to maintain a record if not afforded the opportunity.

In the end, the result of Australia allowing 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy receiving a platform to create her newest gem.

Then best known as the 19-year-old niece of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after Australia didn't secure either of the T20 or ODI World Cups conducted earlier and has experienced everything through 15 championship-filled years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup happened three months after her debut and seven international trophies have followed from 10 tries across formats.

The tough gloveman was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India temporarily stopped the winning streak.

That loss "motivated us to reevaluate our levels," Healy said this week.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the final and was declared player of the series. She guaranteed her country would not fall short again.

Whether this latest epic knock surpassed that earlier display is debatable.

Some will argue the reasoning behind final game tension. Some might respond with the difficulty that comes when confronting a historic chase and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What is certain is this century was far harder to see coming.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 came as she was the highest scorer, but this performance came after six matches in India since the start of last month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've been watching me in the nets, it has been a disappointing period because I feel like my form was missing at all," said Healy.

"But once you step out on the field, your competitive nature activate and you just lock into the contest."

Healy's competitiveness has consistently been her great strength - and a priceless quality in succeeding famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, fallen to the 22-year-old seamer in every game, but this time it merely gave Healy's motivation.

A single came off Gaud's first delivery and from there the right-hander was on her way.

"The possibility to take the field and face the challenge with her and just have a bit of fun in that aspect, somewhat inspired me," said Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 balls - her quickest at the World Cup - and her hundred in 84 deliveries while she flogged anything short, scoring 21 fours and three sixes.

Once she was dismissed Australia needed 66 more at a run-a-ball - an achievable target now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Pursuing 330 is unfamiliar ground so I am glad we have the confidence to do that now," added Healy.

"Ideally we won't need to do it again but, if necessary, we believe we can succeed."

These statements will be the ultimate thing Australia's opponents at this championship need to hear.

In recent days a belief they will succeed regardless of circumstances has become more firm - this triumph succeeding victory over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite being 76-7 at one point.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a meeting with traditional opponents England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a last-four spot may well be secure.

It was in the semi-finals they left the prior year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a match Healy couldn't play because of torn tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the inaugural occasion at an important competition.

Such is her determination, she later said she wanted to have participated despite the injury.

Yet even as she afterwards confessed those injuries have postponed thoughts of retirement, this championship is anticipated as her final tournament as skipper in ODI cricket and she is yet to win an international tournament as leader.

Success in India would lead her to the peak of her ultimate challenge.
